"I don't want life to imitate art. I want life to be art."-Carrie Fisher
A self-taught "slash" photographer (commercial/portrait/ wedding) , Jim Corley has worked professionally in the midwest for more than eighteen years. Whether on commercial assignment, shooting a child's portrait, or teaching a workshop, a devotion to and appreciation of his craft shine through all his work.
Corley's clean, uncomplicated photographic style is the product of a relaxed and unpretentious method. Except for the occasional make-up artist, Corley prefers to work unassisted. He uses only the equipment necessary for each particular job, keeping the distraction of technical tinkering to a minimum. Instead, he focuses on his subjects, preferring to lead rather than pose them. As a result, Corley's portraits and wedding photographs have a natural, candid feel.
Corley's background in photojournalism and fine art are evident in his downtown Champaign studio/gallery, where timeless portraits share space with fine art prints and restored photographs from the turn of the century. In fact, his commissioned work - especially the black and whites - seem to meld with his art photos, evidence of the care put into all his work. Whether you have been looking for just the right professional photographer or you simply appreciate fine photography, you owe yourself a visit to Corley's studio.
